Geographic Data Management and Planning Analysis Assignment - Spatial Autocorrelation Analysis
This is analysis assignment of cluster maps to look which county needs more help based on Household income in mid-west Brazil. The Maps and all graphs needed are attached.
In this assignment you will analyze the patterns of spatial autocorrelation (both global and local) for the 2017 median household income in the American Midwest Brazil. The region is composed of twelve states. The spatial unit of your analysis is the county.
The data for this assignment is a folder named Assig_2 under CRP 452\Assignments. The name of the shapefile you will use is midwest-1. You will use only ONE variable for the analysis named MED_INC_17.
Analysis: You will need to construct two spatial weight matrices as follows: (i) queen contiguity, and (ii) k-nearest neighbors. To select the value for k, you should follow the steps your instructor demonstrated in class. Make sure to explain how you defined your k in the report.
For global analysis, use 5% as the level of significance. For local analysis, use 1% as the level of significance.
To test the robustness of your results, you have to calculate the Moran's I, and the LISA using the two spatial weights you have constructed.
You need to produce the following analyses with associated graphs and maps:
- Comparison of the characteristics of the spatial weights;
- Global Moran's I for the MED_INC_17 (with significance test - use 9,999 permutations) for each matrix (total of two). For the Global you should include the scatter plot and the permutations, as figures in your report.
- Local Moran for the MED_INC_17 (with significance test - use 999 permutations) for each matrix (total of two). For the Local you should include only the Significance Map and the Cluster Map (filtered at 0.01), as figures in your report. NO need to present scatter plot for the Local.
ATTENTION: You should include the picture of permutation in your report when needed (i.e. Global Moran).
Deliverable - Prepare a 4-page (12pt Calibri, 1.5 spaces) report on the global and local spatial autocorrelation for MED_INC_17. Four pages of writing PLUS figures. Keep the discussion brief and to the point, and append all maps, figures, etc. (no length limitation for figures).
