Assignment:
In the Economic Analysis section, students will create User Stories based on the client interview that will be put in the release backlog following Agile Scrum methodology. The release backlog will be used to develop a timeline that then is used to determine project costs. When demonstrating the financial feasibility of a project, you have a duty to the company to ensure it fits with the goals of the company.
The assignment consists of three parts: The projected timeline, analysis of opportunity costs and Go/NoGo decision analysis.
Part 1: Projected time frame
The projected time frame for the product development will be developed using software development tools use by Agile teams. The recommended software products are either Monday.com or Jira. These software links can be found in the Class Resources.
You will need to do the following for the Agile Scrum methodology:
Create client interview questions that will be used to understand the client requirements.
The results of the client interview will create User Stories.
User Stories will then populate the product backlog.
The product backlog will then be evaluated to determine which User Stories will be placed in the release backlog.
Assign project timeframe to each User Story in the release backlog.
Develop a timeline for the release backlog that will be used to determine initial project cost.
Part 2: Project Opportunity Cost
Use the provided template from the Smartsheet website, found in topic Resources, to capture the project financial analysis.
Calculate the following for the project based on the timeline and project cost:
Payback Period
Discounted Cash Flow
Cost Benefit Analysis
Internal Rate of Return (IRR)
Part 3: Go/No-Go Decision Analysis
Using the data from above, make an analysis. Analyze the opportunity cost and evaluate if this project would be a Go/No-Go decision based on the financial analysis.
