Question: Analyze the case of Mrs. Goldstein from the beginning of the semester utilizing the relevant concepts from this course. You should utilize concepts specific to biomedical ethics and NOT ethical theories in general. In other words, utilize concepts from weeks 3-8 of the course. You are not using the analysis that you wrote in the first week of the course. Once again, you must make your decision based on the facts and concepts and cannot ask anyone (relatives, rabbi, etc.) for help. The decision is solely yours to make without any outside help
Mrs. Goldstein is an 82-year-old woman with Alzheimer's disease. She lives at a Jewish nursing home where she has been a resident for the past 5 years. Mrs. Goldstein loves to have fresh flowers in her room. She also loves to watch old television shows.

For all of her rational and competent adult life, Mrs. Goldstein has kept kosher. She is a devout Jewish woman who has always expressed a deep faith and pride in her Jewish heritage. She has always kept a kosher lifestyle.

Lately, however, Mrs. Goldstein has started demanding that the staff give her ham for her meals-something that she would never have requested in her rational state. When they refuse, Mrs. Goldstein gets upset. The staff are uncertain of how to respond. Some believe she
should be given ham in order to quiet her and keep her calm, while other staff members believe it would be a violation of her lifelong commitment to keeping kosher.
