Assignment -

Using CDC Wonder data surrounding SIDS and infant mortality in all 50 states, we will analyze SIDS deaths as they relate to mothers by age and mothers by education level. It is our hypothesis that mothers under 20 years of age and mothers with a high school education or less have a higher occurrence is of SIDS-related death nationwide with possible higher concentrations in poorer states.

Methods - The data sets can be found on the CDC Wonder website where we used the filtering method to receive the data in an excel format. Variables that will be used in our SIDS analysis include State, Age of Mother, Education Level, Number of Deaths and Death rate per State. We are planning to investigate if the two indicators "Age of Mother" and "Education Level" can be correlated with the number of infant death (SIDS). Our response (the y) variable is death rate and independent predictor variables (the x's) are Age of Mother and Education level. We are also going to look at all 50 states in the U.S. and compare the number of SIDS deaths based on our indicators. This can be used for a later study. The statistical method we are using is the linear regression as our variables are continuous.

Results - We anticipate that our results will show a correlation between the number/rate of SIDS deaths and our two predictor variables "Age of Mother" and "Education level." With that, we predict that a younger age of the mother and a lower education level are going to show higher numbers of death for SIDS.
