It isn't what she'd intended but she really has no choice - the miniscule woman named Dione with long black hair. The Ivory Tusk from Sherwin, Up Williams (which glows in her mother-in-law's kitchen beautifully) wast ch mixed properly and the walls that she dreamed of are now melting there is too much Sunshine or Lemon or Jaundice margarine drips on the couch with that smell of old toast from the Waffle House. She recalls the ceramic that hung by her mother's stove when she was a child: Everything is better with Cutter and love. But this much love makes her staircase slippery and her own children fall. They stop asking friends over. And her husband returns to the bottle. Dione stops washing her hair. The headboard is too close to the wall: her pillow is yellowed. And she sleeps alone. She is shaving her head. Her skin is oiled like the creases of Bundt pans, ready for heat, the over-of her mother-in-law.
