Defining what sustainability and livability means to a community
Step One: Interview 5 people in their local community (e.g., family, neighbours) about what the terms Sustainability and Liveability mean to them (i.e., how they define these terms), and what makes, or would make, their suburb liveable (i.e., indicators of liveability).
Step two: Combine this data and analyses the outcomes of these interviews to develop a common view of both terms and a list of ‘key indicators of liveability'. Students must provide a group ‘summary' of analysis in table form in the appendices.
Research Key indicators of livability (Individual) - MY INDICATOR WOULD BE "EDUCATION"
Based on initial research, the group must select a range of indicators of livability to examine within their chosen suburb. Each group member will focus on 1-2 specific indicators and develop a literature review on the topic/s as they relate to urban development, lifestyles and liveability.
Task one: (1) A literature review on the topic/s as they relate to urban development, lifestyles and liveability. Sources should include: relevant academic journals and books, as well as government reports and statistics
(2) An assessment of supply/provision of relevant infrastructure/facilities/programs/services in the area in relation to their chosen indicator'
(3) An analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of current provision and the potential for further development. This section should contain written information but also, where appropriate, maps, photos and diagrams to illustrate existing conditions.
