For this paper, students will choose a specific state-level piece of legislation or policy initiative relevant to integrated healthcare. Pieces of legislation can be found through state-based legislative bodies.
The purpose of Policy Brief Part 1 is to identify a state-level policy as the focus of all three written assignments. In Part 1, students will describe the target policy or legislation in sufficient detail that other professionals may understand the scope and implications. In addition, students will use scholarly sources to synthesize historical elements that elucidate the background of the policy.

I. Introduction
State the section of legislation and the policy or policies being analyzed including information about the legislative history and the politics behind your topic of choice. Specify how this topic is important and relevant to integrated healthcare.
II. Analysis
A. Objectives of the Policy: What are the objectives of this section of the legislation? Discuss the objectives; were they a result of compromise? Is the policy too idealistic or were objectives realistic? How will the objectives influence your practice of integrated health care (through a clinical, management, or combined perspective)?
B. Historical Context: What is or was happening in the U.S. that makes this section an important aspect of the law? Were there cultural reasons for the section of legislation? What kind of organized political support is or has been mounted for this section of the law?
III. Conclusion
Summarize your findings. Provide an evaluation of the overall historical significance.
