1) You are completing your project planning activities for the project you have been assigned to manage. The remaining component is the communication plan that you need to present to your project sponsor at the end of the week. Using the library, determine the necessary components of an effective project communication plan. Then prepare a 2-paragraph description of the critical audiences that must be included in your communication plan. Next, choose 3 of those audiences, and answer the following questions for each audience:
What information must be shared with this audience?
What is the mechanism you will use for each type of information?
What is the frequency with which you must share information?
What will you do if the communications are not proving to be effective?
What technology will you use for your communication?
At what point could communication about the project become an ethical or legal issue?

2) Although this product is being targeted at the home consumer, the sales department thinks there is great potential in the commercial market, and it should be pursued. You brought this issue to the project sponsor who, in turn, brought it to executive management. Management decided that this opportunity should be investigated as part of your project. It would like to see an opportunity assessment completed that defines the new markets, potential revenues, high-level sales and marketing strategy, and a 5-year financial business case with initial expenses clearly defined. They have agreed to provide additional resources (people, funding, and time) to create this new deliverable. You need to tell them how many people you will need to complete this deliverable within the next 6 weeks. You can assume that the people will be allocated to work on this deliverable a maximum of 20 hours per week.

Create a schedule focused on the creation of this new scope item. The schedule should include the following:

A list of tasks that will need to be completed

Dependencies between tasks

Total estimated effort to complete each task

Resource assignments

Start and end dates

The schedule should contain between 25 and 60 tasks/subtasks. Use Microsoft Project, Excel, Word, or any other appropriate tool to document your schedule. You will also need to define the team members you will need. For each team member you will need, create a bulleted list of skills/expertise he or she must have to complete his or her assigned tasks. Please submit your assignment.

3) McGee Carpet and Trim installs carpets in commercial offices. Andrea McGee has been very concerned with the amount of time it took to complete several recent jobs. Some of her workers are very unreliable. A list of activities and their optimistic completion time, the most likely completion time, and the pessimistic completion time (all in days) for a new contract are provided in a given table. Following are the activities that are required to install the carpets in the offices: Activity 1 (Measure office room dimensions), Activity 2 (Estimate cost), Activity 3 (Material Requisition), Activity 4 (Workforce Requisition), Activity 5 (Special Tool Requisition), Activity 6 (Installation), Activity 7 (Inspection and customer acceptance). Activity 2 starts immediately after Activity 1. Activity 3, Activity 4, and Activity 5 start concurrently after Activity 2. Activity 6 does not start until after Activity 3, Activity 4, and Activity 5 are completed. The carpet installation project is complete after Activity 7 is completed. If OT = Optimistic Time, MT = Most Likely Time, and PT = Pessimistic Time, use Program Evaluation Review Estimate (PERT) to compute the statistical time for each activity in the table shown below.

Activity OT MT PT
Act. 1 4 6 14
Act. 2 5 12 16
Act. 3 7 15 16
Act. 4 13 16 23
Act. 5 17 20 35
Act. 6 20 32 50
Act. 7 5 6 13

Also, (a) Determine the expected completion time and the variance for each activity (b) Determine the total project completion time and the critical path for the project. (c) Determine Early Start (ES), Early Finish (EF), Late Start (LS), and slack for each activity. What is the probability that McGee Carpet and Trim will finish the project in 40 days or less?
Define project management and the necessary requirements.

Analyze implications of changes in project scheduling.

Evaluate application of project management techniques in terms of the firm's business operational goals and requirements.
