Overview

Many UN member states are dissatisfied with the progress of the eight Millennium Development Goals for international development that they established in 2000. They see a substantial disconnect between several issues that developed and developing countries believe are priorities. For example, Burundi wants one of the goals to focus on food security, while Austria is adamant that a major global issue should be the negotiation of ceasefires in countries amid civil wars. The UN has asked you to analyze two threats and suggest initiatives to address each.

Preparation

Listed below are eight issues that the UN feels pose the most significant threats to global environmental security. Research 2 of the threats to support an analysis that helps create strategies to address them.

The use of fossil fuels as an energy source.

Globalization.

Insufficient educational opportunities in developing countries.

A lack of access to technology.

Civil war (NOT the U.S. Civil War).

The rise in oceans' levels.

Covid-19 and the global pandemic.

The dangers of poor countries remaining poor.

Instructions

Write an 8 to 10 page analysis of your chosen threats in which you do the following:

Identify the purpose of the paper and introduce the threats.

Describe the core factors that make each threat a significant environmental risk.

Analyze the role that humans have played in aggravating the threats. Support your analysis by interpreting data depicted in a graph, table, or chart included in the analysis. Make sure to cite its source.

Describe 2 separate initiatives (one for each threat) designed to significantly diminish each threat.

Summarize your analysis and conclusions.
