Assignment:
Introduction to the Nursing Profession: Relational Inquiry - Looking at the Bigger Picture: Presentation and Personal Self-Reflection
The assigned client: A new immigrant from Mozambique with limited English living in Etobicoke.
Please answer just part 2 of the assignment (All 3 questions).
Part 1: Group Presentation
The purpose of the group presentation is to identify, describe and analyze health inequities and how they affect your assigned client's health and well-being. The group is expected to provide a description of the influences (i.e., intrapersonal, interpersonal, and contextual factors) on their assigned client and support this work with evidence. Students will also describe the connections between the social determinants of health and the client's health using hermeneutic and critical lenses. Finally, students will provide examples of supportive nursing care using relational inquiry. In order to facilitate learning for all class members, the group presentation must incorporate strategies to engage the class in a dynamic way. Examples of class engagement strategies include interactive case studies, role play with debriefing, polls, etc.
Part 2: Personal Self-Reflection: "Looking Through the Cracks and Cleansing the Debris"
As you reflect on your own learning about relational inquiry and nursing this semester, use the following questions to guide your thinking and to frame a comprehensive written response:
1) What did you see after examining the intrapersonal, interpersonal, and contextual levels of the client scenario, using the hermeneutic and critical lenses of relational inquiry? [Note: this should not be a simple summary of what your group has already shared in the group presentation]
2) Consider the aspirations and concerns you have as a nurse. How are these aspirations and concerns shaping the way you are (or were) relating to the client's situation? What does all of this tell you about yourself?
3) What windows or cracks might you look through to learn more about yourself and to care for yourself more fully?
4) How might you clear the debris? Consider some of the strategies you have learned about from various course readings this term that might be important for your self-compassion.
