Housing availability in Canada is in crisis. The B.C. Government has chosen a supply side policy to help alleviate this crisis. It has chosen to severely limit short term rental in larger urban communities with theShort-Term Rental Accommodations Act.The purpose of the Act is to:
• Give local governments stronger tools to enforce short-term rental bylaws.
• Return short-term rental units to the long-term housing market.
• Establish a new Provincial role in the regulation of short-term rentals.

The Government of Canada has chosen a demand side tool by restricting immigration and international student numbers to try to lower the demand for rental housing.

Analyze both policies and provide your opinion (supported by economic principles) as to which policy will be more effective. You need to deal with both policies, and I want your opinion supported by the economic principles you have learned to date. I do not want research or citations. Instead, I want to read your ideas. Remember to analyze both approaches and give your learned opinion on both. You all have enough economics from this course to form a great opinion. Chapter 14 in the Brander text will be helpful.
