Human rights are rights inherent to all human beings, regardless of sex, race, nationality, ethnicity, language, religion, age, disability, or any other status.
For this assessment task, you are required to write an essay (1000 - 1200 words) that is based on one of the following groups who, at various times and in various contexts, have not had their human rights protected or promoted:
- People with disabilities
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
- Children
- Women
In your essay, you are required to review, analyze and draw from relevant human rights documents (listed below) and from current evidence to explain:
- The obligations of governments to promote and protect the human rights and freedoms of your chosen group (i.e., the obligations of governments to act in certain ways or refrain from certain acts).
The ways in which Australian government(s) have not and/or do not meet specific obligations under specific conventions/articles to promote and protect the human rights and freedoms of your chosen group. Examples can be based on past and/or present legislation, policies and practices.
