This assignment is intended to help you learn to do the following:

  • Analyze an organization's current staffing practices to determine if they are sufficient to meet the organization's current and future needs.
  • Recommend ways for an organization to improve planning in staffing in order to meet upcoming needs.
  • Describe how competencies can be used in the hiring process.

Overview

In this module's case study, you'll forecast hiring needs and make plans to meet them. You'll identify gaps between labor needs and availability. Finally, you'll examine how and why planning activities consider the demographic composition of the workforce.

Read Case 2 in the Tanglewood Casebook. addresses questions 1 and 2 at the end of the case. Format the paper according to General APA GuidelinesLinks to an external site.. You do not need to include an abstract.

To determine Next Year (projected):

  • Multiply the percentage from the transaction probability matrix by the current workforce (total) for each position.
  • For example, 0.53 of store associates will be store associates next year. So (.53)(8500) = 4505 store associates will be store associates next year.
  • Once you do that for the entire matrix, add each column to get the year end totals for each position (ignore the shading).
  • Determine total external hires needed by subtracting year-end total for each position from the current workforce for each position.
