Critical Analysis Paper -
You need to write an essay (at least four pages long, not including the Works Cited page and title page) in which you...
(a) Pick a story from the list below and analyze all the literary elements of the story. The important thing is not only to identify these elements, but also to tell me WHY they are important to the story. You must use quotes from the story (and use MLA in-text citations) to support your points. You can use web sites to help you, but you must document the information with MLA citations. You must include a Works Cited page
List of stories you can choose from (check your book's index for page numbers) You can also find copies of these stories online (in case you don't have a book). Just Google the title and author:
"The Lesson" by Toni Cade Bambara
"The Birthmark" by Nathaniel Hawthorne
"The Cask of Amontillado" by Edgar Allen Poe
"A Jury of Her Peers" by Susan Glaspell
"A Rose for Emily" by William Faulkner
Please keep in mind that I've seen many papers on these stories and I also know what's out there on the internet, so please don't copy stuff - I'll know, I promise. Don't use Wikipedia or blogs as sources. This is an essay so you will need an introductory paragraph, body paragraphs and a conclusion paragraph.
Literary Elements (all of which are explained in your book) and in your lectures. You don't have to write about them in this order:
Theme
Characters (round and flat)
Setting (which includes tone)
Style
Conflict (external and internal)
Point of View
Symbolism (contextual and universal)
Dialogue (if any)
Irony (if any)
This is an essay so remember you have to have an introduction, body paragraphs and a conclusion.
