1. With reference to concepts from Ch. 1 in Professional writing and speaking textbook WS, analyze a difficult conversation you have been involved in. Tell what went well and explain what you would do differently if you could do it again.

2. Your company of 500 employees is implementing a new recycling policy and has placed you in charge of communicating this policy to employees. Each desk at the company headquarters and branch offices will have its own mini-recycling bin, which employees will then empty into a central receptacle in the building on a weekly basis.

The company goal is for at least 90 percent of employees to be aware of the program in the next 30 days, with at least 70 percent compliance in the next 60 days.

You have been given a small budget of $250, and you have use of the company's already existing communications infrastructure, which includes email, the company's externally facing Twitter account and Facebook page, and an emailed monthly newsletter. You are not limited to these communication channels. Past experience has shown that many employees often do not read mass emails that are sent out from the company.

Your task: In your post, using the communication model described in the video, briefly describe the situation and make recommendations for the best communication strategies that a manager would need to use to accomplish the company goals. Take note to discuss terms from p. 47 "Channel Strategy" (Richness-Cost) and p. 44 "Psychological Strategy" (particularly head, hand, heart, positive, negative appeals, direct and indirect approaches) from Baker Ch 2. Also write one question that you have for people who are responding to answer.
