THESIS MODEL

A Stern roller is an essential and safety relevant component of anchor towing vessel. The stern roller is placed at the aft of the vessel for hoisting anchor and other equipment out of the water. Because of the high winch capacities of such vessels is the dimensioning really challenging. At the moment are typically finite-element simulations used for the dimensioning process of the drum because of missing analytical approaches. Especially for fast optimisation processes during the basic design are analytical design mythologies needed.

Analytical or simple numerical approaches are needed for the following parts of structure of the stern ruler drum:

1. Ring frames
2. Frame Beams(stringers)
3. Thickness of the Discs and the support plates.

The thickness of the bearing housing and the inner pipe is given with constant 50 mm and 10 mm. The minimum frame spacing should be 350mm. With the known structural response an optimisation routine should be implemented. We recommend for the implementation of the optimisation Matlab program. The target function for the optimisation is the total mass of the drum. The test cases for the optimisation are given in Table.

The drum shell covers the whole structure.

So, the task is to get an analytical approach or simple numerical approach for the Ring frames (Matlab), Frame Beams (Ms Excel) and thickness of the Discs, support plates.
