The Chinese company BYD is one of the biggest players in the world market when it comes to electric buses. It sees an important growth market in the European Union but also sees a major challenge in the new environmental policy. Soon, the European Union will start imposing trade restrictions on polluting products that include the production process abroad. Although BYD has some facilities where the buses are assembled in Europe, there is some concern that it will have to import these parts with hefty tariffs at higher costs.
