Evaluation of engineering data using statistics Project - Work in Wolfram Mathematica
Data from GOSA website have been downloaded and five EXCEL files were composed for the purpose of the project.
Files: "CastleGeyser-2005-2010.xls", "DaisyGeyser-2005-2010.xls", "GrandGeyser-2005-2010.xls", "OldFaithfulGeyser-2005-2010.xls" has two columns:
Column 1: date and time of eruption for years from 2005 to 2010
Column 2: time interval from previous eruptions in hours
File: "SpouterGeyser-2005-2010.xls" has three columns
Column 1: date and time od eruption for years from 2005 to 2010
Column 2: time interval from previous eruption in hours
Column 3: duration of eruption in hours
1) Justify the importance of analysis of the time interval between Geyser eruptions. Why do we need to perform such analysis?
2) Describe the subject, details of collected data samples, limitations, instruments used, conditions under which the data was collected.
3) Define the population.
4) Import data from EXCEL files to Wolfram Mathematica.
5) Put imported data into a table or grip.
6) Statistically analyze geyser eruption interval data provided and data distribution in the samples using all relevant statistical and graphical summaries.
7) Analyzed and compare the distribution of time interval between eruptions od different geysers with each other and with several statistical models (for example, probability density functions of Rayleigh, extreme values, Gumbel, normal distribution, etc.). Illustrate graphically this comparison. Which model provides better approximation of the population?
