Persuasive speeches aim to convince the audience to believe a certain view. Audience analysis is important in a persuasive speech, as the audience will be convinced for their own reasons, not for the speaker's reasons. Watch any recorded speech - it could be a business leader, a sports star, or a motivational speaker, a person you admire. What is your analysis of the speech you have watched.

Consider:

  • Language: What sort of language (vocabulary, style) does the speaker use?
  • Intention: What seems to be the intention of the speaker? What is his purpose?
  • What is the speech about?
  • Is there a governing idea running through the speech?
  • What about the speaker's style, appearance and body language?
