Instructions

For this writing assignment, worth 15% of your final grade, you need to select a business or organization with a strong online/digital presence by which to analyze the organIzation's external communications. For this analysis, you will need to focus on one of the organization's external written communication products (eg. blog, email newsletter, webpage, Facebook site, etc.).

Topic
Based on your analysis of one of the business's communication formats (eg. newsletter, blog, social media account), write a short report (1.5-2 pages), describing how the business adapts its messaging with decisions related to audience, expert writing techniques, and message design. Use the External Communications Analysis Worksheet included in Module 2 to organize your information into three body paragraphs: Audience, Writing Techniques, Message Design. Also Include an introduction and conclusion to your analysis. Refer to Chapters 4 and 5 to review the first two phases of message design, which Include the information you'll need for your analysis. Also, refer to Chapter 7, pages 161-169, for information related to external business messages communicated through digital and social media.

Format
For this short report, you will continue to use memo-style formatting. See Figure 12.8 (p.322) for a sample document, demonstrating the appropriate use of headings, along with Figure 12.9 (p.323) for additional tips related to document design. Note the left-aligned, single-spaced paragraphs, extra spaces between paragraphs, and use of headings.
• Length -1.5.2 pages
• Single-spaced, left-aligned paragraphs with one extra space between paragraphs
• Headings - use a centred Title heading to name the organization under analysis (eg. Apartment Therapy) and centred Level 1 headings to Identify the three main elements under analysis (Audience, Writing Techniques, Message Design). If you have more than one paragraph In a section (eg. Audience), you can also use left-aligned Level 2 headings (eg. Primary, Secondary). See Figure 12.8 (p.322).
• APA formatted references (course textbook and business website) with a centred Level 1 heading (References)
