The report is to be used by the Iwi Authority and will be an important reference guide for them. Therefore pay close attention to layout, (use tables if appropriate) be concise, use headings and sub headings etc. Encourage the Iwi Authority to use your report by making it ‘user-friendly'.

• Use gender-neutral language.
• Use examples and analogies.
• Use short sentences and paragraphs rather than long-winded constructions.
• Choose your words with care. A misused word can cast doubt on your credibility.
• Use plenty of headings and subheadings as signposts for your reader.
• Use bullet points or numbers where possible, rather than continuous text.
• Thoroughly check your spelling and punctuation.

Analysis of the Auckland council plan should include the provision of the following Maori interests and values:

• The extent to which the document provides for Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the Treaty of Waitangi
• The extent to which the document supports papakainga development
• The extent to which the document supports Maori Land development
• The extent to which the document supports marae
• The extent to which the document supports the exercise of kaitiakitanga
• The extent to which the document protects waahi tapu and mana whenua cultural heritage sites/areas
• The extent to which the document supports the sustainable management of taonga.
