In this weeks study, you are introduced to the various agencies that are active in the process of monitoring radiation effects for the purpose of reducing radiation illness. Our goal as radiographers is to use the minimal amount of radiation that will produce optimal images. This will serve to protect patients, personnel, and the general public. Within the radiology department, the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) provides the safety oversight. Although radiation safety is the responsibility of the entire radiology staff that functions within the department, the RSO is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring the department's radiation safety plan.
