Accounting for Managers
Analyse and critically evaluate your allocated case company (see Assessment 1 details) using financial statement analysis in a written document with a maximum of 1,500 words.
Instructions:
• Use the company's 2020 annual report that you accessed from the link provided in the
Assessment 1 folder.
• Use the additional information provided for the company in the Assessment 2 folder.
• A link to the 2018 annual report is provided in the Assessment 2 folder, should you require 2017 and 2018 figures.
• Only use figures (numbers) from the three sources above.
• Model your analysis on the guidance and examples provided in Topics 4 and 5.
• Before you start writing up or analysing the financial information, undertake general background research on the company. (What does it do? Any significant events?). This background will help you contextualise your financial analysis. Reading the Chairman/Director/CEO reports in the annual report should provide sufficient background for the 2020 financial year.
• Refer to information in the company annual reports and/or financial press coverage to support your explanations and evaluation of the financial information. Cite your sources.
• You may like to present tables, graphs or diagrams to help summarise and communicate your analyses. Ensure you briefly explain them including what conclusions can be drawn from them.
Required:
A. Analysis of Financial Health: Cash Flow Health Dimension
Analyse the company's Statements of Cash Flows for 2020 (comparing to the prior year where relevant) and provide conclusions on the company's cash flow health.
Approximately 350 words.
B. Analysis of Financial Health: Other Dimensions
Using the ratios and other information provided, along with the 2020 (and where relevant 2018) annual report, analyse and interpret the company's profitability, efficiency, liquidity, financial gearing and investment performance.
Approximately 800 words.
C. Evaluation of Financial Health
Provide an overall evaluation that links together your major findings. Approximately 250 words.
