Overview

This should be a professionally written comprehensive engineering report, which can be submitted to the client. The teamwork and individual learning activities on the project conducted should be able to be found in the individual management report for the second half-session from each team member, being part of the progress report.

Details

The Final Report also includes two parts: a) Group/Individual Final Report; and b) Individual Management Report.

Both of them must be completed using Microsoft Word.

a) Group Final Report: TWO (2) hardcopies of the Group Final Report each group must be submitted accompanying with the similarity index page of the report and an Assignment Cover Sheet.

b) Individual Management Report: The contents of the Individual Management Report still include engineering log book and peer-review report for the second half session. The engineering log book is a weekly dairy which is used to record your activities weekly. The confidential peer-review report must be finished for marking your teammates' performances on the project during the semester.

The following criteria will be used to assess the final report:

- Problem identification and definition (objectives and scope).

- Literature review.

- Theoretical background.

- Quality and quantity of data collected.

- Analysis of data and discussion of results and/or design details.

- Conclusions and Recommendations.

- Project management.

- Overall report presentation.

- Interactions between team members and supervisor(s) and the team.

Students competitive position depends on the quality and quantity of information that is provided under Theoretical background and Analysis of data and discussion of results and/or design details. Students must link observed results with the theoretical concepts that already exist in the respective field of study. If more than one student involved in the project, clearly identify the role and the section/ content contributed/ written by each member.

This should be outlined in the introduction chapter. Marks will be allocated to each member based on the quality and quantity of the contributed section/content considering the marks given in the Peer-review Reports. The reports will be marked by the Principal Academic Advisor and an Assessor (who can be a Co-supervisor, if the project has one). Individual Management Report is expected to include:

- Engineering Logbook for individual activities conducted during the 2nd half session

- Peer-review Report on team member's performances during the 2nd half session if more than one student is involved in the project.

Resources:

Groups are expected to work closely with their supervisors to progressively complete the various chapters and sections of the Group Final Report during the semester and based on the objectives of the Progress Report and feedback from Supervisors. AVOID leaving the writing of this report to the end of the semester.

The report is organised following a standard research reporting format (Cover page, Abstract, Table of Content [List of Figures, Tables, and Abbreviations if appropriate], Introduction and motivation, Literature Review, Methods, Results, Analysis, Conclusions, References, Appendix (when necessary)). Clear and logical presentation throughout the report. The report is easy to read and understand. The objective(s) and the underlined research questions are clearly articulated. Comprehensive but concise literature review. Literature review clearly leads to the knowledge gap and/or the justification of the project. A methodology as appropriate for the project is clearly articulated. Data collection and/or simulation results (as appropriate) are clearly presented. Results are objectively analysed, interpretations are made using appropriate models and/or theories. Logical conclusions based purely on evidence. Shows evidence of critical evaluation. Results linked consistently to the objectives.

This report also needs an Assignment Cover Sheet. If the student does not submit the Individual Management Report, she/he will not get the mark on the Group Final Report. The templates for these documents can be found on the vUWS site. The final report and the must be submitted via vUWS which may be submitted by a single student. The Individual Management Report of each group member must be individually submitted via vUWS. Submission Format: The Group Final Report must be a comprehensive engineering report, professionally written, containing all the activities and information starting from the day the student has chosen the project to the date final report is submitted. The minimum length of the report is 5,000 words per student (excluding appendices and annexures), e.g. 3-student project group should submit 15,000-word report.
