1 - Instructions
The Marking Criteria table in Section 6 shows the guide and should not be part of your submission. Download the assignment cover page on Moodle, complete it and make it the cover page of your submission.
Each student must submit a single project report following the guide below for marking and grading. Each student needs to submit PowerPoint file plus report for assignment on Moodle (Submitting 2 files). Everyone shall present its results in Week 12 using PowerPoint slides for 15 minutes in lab.
2 - Assignment Specifications
Title: Analysis and Simulation of the Cellular IoT ( NB-IoT , LTE-M, LTE CAT0, LTE CAT1 and 5G) 5G is supposed to provide a mechanism for all devices needed to be connected to wireless network. It was suggested that by 2025 more than 50 million devices will be connected to internet which means many smaller devices (the things) with limited resources will be able to connect to wireless network based on 5G.
Understating of cellular IOT is essential for connecting remote devices to internet which can have huge application in agricultural and industrial system to make them more autonomous and analytic algorithms can be used for monitoring and smarter control of them
3 - Objectives
The objective of this project is to investigate into the technical aspects of Cellular IOT, for wireless communication. Students are expected to submit a report which in the minimum:
1. Writing of the report submitted for grading plus presentation file on Moodle.
2. Investigate origin of Cellular IOT based on LPWAN like LoRa, Sigfox and other low cost wireless networks.
3. Investigate 4G based Cellular IOT wireless network such as NB-IOT, LTE-M, and LTE-CAT. Compare them and discuss the differences between them.
4. Investigate what is proposed for Cellular IOT in 5G and compare to Cellular IOT system based on 4G.
5. Use CellPlanner to simulate the air interface of at least one of Cellular IOT in 4G or 5G.
6. Investigate the requirement of IOT devices for connecting to cellular network and address the following design consideration. You can simulate scenarios in CellPlanner to analyze the requirement
a. IOT receiver requirement (Receive Signal Strength RSS)
b. Design requirement with number of channel needed for and how it will affect frequency re-use factor
c. Low transmit power requirement of IOT devices
7. Demonstrate a thorough research into issues relating to Cellular IOT, including showing at least four (4) technical references.
8. Everyone needs to present their work in week 12 in lab. PowerPoint file should be submitted on Moodle in week 11 along assignment report. 4 - Oral Preparation
Everyone will present their analysis and comparison done in this assignment during the Lab session in Week 12. There should be 10-12 presentation slides.
