Purpose
The purpose of this assessment task is to:
This assessment task will help broaden your understanding of play, its role in the lives of humans. It is an opportunity to practice noticing, documenting, and analysing moments of play and thought.
Learning outcome 1: Articulate the value of place and children's agency in play
Learning outcome 2: Elucidate the language of maths, science, technology and movement in the context of early childhood and play
Learning outcome 3: Examine how personal, social, cultural perspectives inform individual and collective understandings of children's health, wellbeing and risk
Assessment Structure
For this task, you are to create a journal with 6 entries.
Throughout your week, you will look for, document, and reflect on your experiences with the following (approx. 200 words each):
1. Play with the language of science
2. Play with the language of mathematics
3. Play and meaning-making with the language of movement
4. Play with the language of technology
5. How personal/social/cultural perspectives inform your understanding of health, wellbeing and risk
6. Thinking and Walking with Place
o an edited and revised version of Assessment 1, building on feedback from your lecturer and from your continued learning in weeks 2 and 3 (this entry may exceed the 200 words)
o students may (but are not required to) use the Place Thought Walk completed during their Playwork placement
Take note of the feedback you got on A1 and use it to further develop your reflections in this assessment.
• This will be similar to the first steps of the planning cycle as studied in ECE6009
o You will observe something in your daily life or in class, or you will have an idea linked to a reading
o You will document the experience including visual evidence (self-taken photos, drawings, sketches)
o You will explain what happened and what you noticed (using theory to support your explanation)
o You will analyse and discuss the significance of the observation or idea (using theory to justify the significance)
