Assessment Task - 2 Written Field Research Group Assignment
Requirements
Students will form themselves into groups of 3-4 members. Each group is required to assess the effectiveness of online intermediaries and how it has influenced people in the way they buy flights and accommodation. At least one large online intermediary has to be selected as a case study.
The students should present a detailed list of the website functional plan in relation to the site's ease of use, appropriateness, responsiveness and handling of complaints that effectively display a thorough understanding of how online intermediaries work.
Each group has to present their case study to the class and address questions from the lecturer or other students.
A field assignment (example, students corresponds directly with the website manager by requesting for online help) has to be part of the case study.
Assessment Task - 3 Website Development
A three hour session during the examination period will be utilised to finalise the development of a website suitable for an aspect of tourism of particular interest to the student. Weeks 11 and 12 will be used for research (preparation and set up), content structure and identification of appropriate technology to be used as a platform for website development. Choices include: Google+, Wordpress or any open source blogsites
Criteria used to grade this task
The criteria for the assessment task are:
• Depth of understanding of concepts studied in the course.
Presentation of content that touches on concepts learned supported by practical use of available social tools
Mark allocation and format of the final exam will be specified in the last class in Week 12 and will be available via the LMS.
