Assignment -
On successful completion of this module, students will be able to do as follows:
- demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the core social psychological concepts, models, and theories underpinning social psychology by critically applying social psychological theories and methods to explain how individuals and/or groups negotiate real life situations
- show a deep understanding of - and critically evaluate - key issues, concepts, and theories in developmental psychology
- engage in scientific enquiry of a specific aspect of developmental and social psychology using qualitative research methods
The assignment should demonstrate the following assignment activities thus the coding process need to be available and completed as appendix. The research report will need to produce based on to research questions, one for social psychology and one for developmental psychology although there may be an overlap between the topic when coding there will still be some difference. Thus there will be a need to show the process of both codings in relationship to the research question in this qualitative research report. Where necessary, I can also provide more content of the selected topics for the outline of content.

Assessment - You will complete a qualitative research report, based on one of the TED Talks (with transcript) provided. Using thematic analysis, you will outline one social psychology theme and one developmental psychology theme from your chosen talk. The themes must be based on topics covered in this module (units 1-5 for social psychology; units 6-10 for developmental psychology). You will analyse the data using Thematic Analysis with an appropriate epistemology.
The Topics must be selected from the following outline, one theme from Social psychology and the other from developmental psychology as follow:
Unit Outline of Content -
0. Release before the module - what is social psychology? What is developmental psychology? Expectations for the assessment
1. Introduction to the module - methods & methodology; debates in social psychology
2. Social cognition, communication & language in social psychology
3. Social influence and social groups
4 Attitudes and persuasion
5. Aggression & pro-social behaviour
6. Introduction to developmental psychology & research methods
7. Social & emotional development through childhood and adolescence
8. Cognitive development through childhood & adolescence
9. Language, moral, and gender development
10. Adulthood & old age
Write a report consisting of the following:
a. A structured abstract (250 word maximum - not included in the word limit).
b. A focused introduction outlining research in the areas of social and developmental psychology you have chosen to focus on and a clear rationale for these choices (approximately 1500 words).
c. A structured methods section detailing the: design, participants, materials, procedure, ethical considerations and analytic strategy (Maximum 750 words)
d. A results section to include all data analysis including links back to the wider literature (approximately 500 words per theme)
e. A discussion section, including a critical discussion of the methods used, limitations of the study and areas of future research (approximately 1250 words).
f. A reflection section where you reflect on the research process and the skills you have developed and challenges you have faced (maximum 500 words)
f. Reference list according to APA guidelines.
g. Appendices. For example, a copy of the coded transcript
The word count does not include the: title, abstract, reference list or appendices. It does include all in-text citations, tables and data quotes.
