Purpose /Aim:
The aim of this assignment is for students to explore and critically analyse the concept of competence in relation to the assessment of competence to practice nursing. To guide the focus of the critical analysis students are to nominate the level or scope of a nursing colleague and identity the standards used to critically analyse the concept of competence in relation to reliability, feasibility and validity.
Method:

Please note:
1. The scope of a nursing colleague refers to the scope of practice under the HP CA Act. The nursing colleague is to be practicing as one of these three scopes of practice:
a. Registered Nurse
b. Nurse Practitioner
c. Enrolled Nurse,
2. The level of a nursing colleague, refers to the level of practice as defined by an approved professional development recognition programme (PDR1=').
3. The standards of practice refers to the competencies as defined by NCNE.
4. A written critical analysis requires academic writing. Although a critical analysis is subjective writing, as you evaluate the topic, avoid the use of "I think' or 'in my opinion' or rhetorical questions. Keep the focus on the subject of your analysis, which is competence and assessment of competence.
5. This critical analysis requires you to evaluate the evidence about the concept of competence and to present the benefits and disadvantages about assessment of competence.
6. As you appraise the concept of competence in relation to assessment of compete to practice nursing, an evaluation of the evidence/literature should become obvious to the reader. Therefore support your argument with relevant literature and current research,
7. Being critical should include positive and negative aspects of the argument.
