Assignment: Critical Analysis of Selected Business Case
The assignment requires to analyse a business case against the standard element required to write any business case.
CAUTION: We are not going to analyse whether project should be selected or not we just need to analyse that this business case written as per the industry practise for writing a business case)
The writer can follow the following approach for writing the assignment.
Step 1: Select a business case (It's already provided as attached file with the name.
Step 2: Search literature for content of a typical business case (I am providing an extract which tells you what are necessary elements of a business case it's just an example you can do research on your own if required)
Step 3: Now we have to compare and analyse our business case (PRC Business case Affordable Housing), does it contain all those elements or not and then we need to write an essay based on this comparison.
- Compare the contents of a project business case as indicated in the literature with the contents in your project's business case.
- A table can be useful thinking tool to understand this comparison. You might structure your table like this. Remember you will have many rows of analysis (not just two as shown here).
Step 4: Now you need to write the essay, the essay should be divided in three sections Introduction, Critical Analysis, Recommendation
For writing critical analysis we need to adopt following approach.
An essay has an introduction and conclusion - but leave these for now (refer step 5).
In this step, just focus on writing your comparison (the 'body' of your essay). (Word Count 1500-1600)
Topic sentence: what element of the business case is this paragraph about (e.g. Problem statement, Project Management Plan, options analysis, Expected benefits etc)?
Recommended best practice: what does the literature say about this part of the business case? What should be included in this section? Why? Make sure you cite (reference) the literature you are using.
Comparison to the literature: what did your project 'do' or 'not do' in comparison to what is recommended in the literature for this part of the business case?
Conclusion/recommendation: Given the comparison you have made, what recommendations would you make to the project/organisation? Is there something they should be doing differently for this section of the business case? What benefits would that change provide? Or perhaps there is something they should continue doing?
Step 5: Write Introduction and Recommendation
In your introduction highlight the purpose of your essay (to compare the business case to recommendations in the literature), provide some information on the project for which you are analysing the business case (refer step 1), and summarise the content you will critically analyse (this will be the topic of each of the paragraphs you have written in step 4).Required Word Count 150-200
In your conclusion highlight the findings of your comparison and the recommendations. You can draw these from the last sentences of each paragraph you have written in step 4. Required Word Count 250-300.
