Consider a GRADE_BOOK database in which instructors within an academic department record points earned by individual students in their classes. The data requirements are summarized as follows: ¦ Each student is identified by a unique identifier, first and last name, and an e-mail address. ¦ Each instructor teaches certain courses each term. Each course is identified by a course number, a section number, and the term in which it is taught. For each course he or she teaches, the instructor specifies the minimum number of points required in order to earn letter grades A, B, C, D, and F. For example, 90 points for an A, 80 points for a B, 70 points for a C, and so forth. ¦ Students are enrolled in each course taught by the instructor. ¦ Each course has a number of grading components (such as midterm exam, final exam, project, and so forth). Each grading component has a maximum number of points (such as 100 or 50) and a weight (such as 20% or 10%). The weights of all the grading components of a course usually total 100. ¦ Finally, the instructor records the points earned by each student in each of the grading components in each of the courses. For example, student 1234 earns 84 points for the midterm exam grading component of the section 2 course CSc2310 in the fall term of 2009. The midterm exam grading component may have been defined to have a maximum of 100 points and a weight of 20% of the course grade. Design an Enhanced Entity-Relationship diagram for the grade book database and build the design using a data modeling tool such as Visio.
Draw the dependency diagram after identifying all dependencies in this data structure. See Lecture 6, Slide 27 for dependency diagram and convert this data structure to a set of 3NF relations. Clearly showing each step
In 250 - 300 words describe role of a database administrator and the tasks performed by this role. Also, describe why this role is important in Database Management.
Describe how you would implement relationship between employees and projects in each of the given scenarios: Many employees can work on given project, but each employee can work on only single project.
Pick one of the different types of SQL statements (data definition language, data manipulation language, or data control language). Describe how that type of statement is use.
Design a query that will allow the finance department to determine the commissions paid to specific employees of the sales department for the month of December.
There are many kinds of relationships in a design model of a database. Why is it important to classify each of these types in an ERD Model?
Consider relation schema r(A,B,C,D,E, F) and a set of functional dependencies {A BCD,BCDE,BD,DA}. Calculate canonical cover for set of functional dependencies (show each step of your derivation with an explanation).
Compute the numbers of married men, single men, married women and single women. Print these numbers on a student summary report.
Explain the differences between the storing data in Access and Excel. Why you would use a spreadsheet over the database?
To identify the number of employees at the New Book Sales Corporation, you view the records in the Sales Department table.
What is your recommendation for this policy and process? Does the reason for leaving the company affect the recommendation? Why or why not? Be specific and explain your reasoning.
Provide what reports may be produced as a result of your database design.Based on the information you have researched, create a 2-3 page design document that includes a description of the database you would like to create as well as sample tables ..
