I have test data for three heat shields and am looking for an explanation (one that can be supported with math theory) for why they preformed the way they did. Three samples were tested: a .063" aluminum plate and two heat double layer foil shields, one of these with an air gap and one with a fibreglass centre. See the attached PowerPoint for the data.
The foil samples had two layers and were more shiny and had either and air gap or a fibre glass insulating layer and were therefore predicted to be better at blocking both radiant and conductive heat. The results however showed that the thicker aluminum plate preformed the best. Please help explain what happened.
