The mass of the Space Shuttle orbiter is 8.8 x 104 kgand the period of its orbit is 82 minutes. Estimate thekinetic energy of the orbiter and the work done on it by gravitybetween the launch and orbit. (Although the force of gravitydecreases with altitude, this effect is small in low-Earthorbit. Use this fact to make necessary aproximation; you donot need to do an integral.) The orbits are about 245 miles abovethe surface of Earth.
