Shelly a Pierce college student, signs a one year lease agreement with Evergreen Park Apartments that runs from September 1,2017 to August 31,2018 for $775/month. The lease agreement specifies that the lease contract cannot be assigned without the landlord’s consent. At the beginning of June,2018, Shelly applies for an internship position beginning June 15th. Shelly assigns the balance of the lease to her friends Lori who agrees. The landlord objects to the assignment and denies Lori access to the apartment. Shelly claims that Lori is going to pay the rent and should be allowed the full rights and privileges of an assignee. Is Shelly or the landlord correct. Explain.
