Managing change involves different conversations at different stages of the change process. The four skills involved in effective communication are talking in stages, talking coherently, aligning your languages with the desired change, and creating a common language (Palmer, et al., 2017, p. 216-221).
The four skills include:
-Talking in Stages- involves four stages
-Initiative conversations bring attention to the fact that change is necessary.
-Conversations for understanding helps others understand what needs to be addressed.
-Conversations for performance produce those changes.
-Conversations for closure are the completion of the change process.
-Talking coherently involves four language forms including ideals, appeals, rules, and deals. The use of different forms of language at different stages is a hallmark of successful change (Palmer, et al., 2017, p. 219).
-Aligning language with the change- involves managers using the right imagery and metaphors that align with the changes they want to make.
-Creating a common language- involves the use of terms and phrases that don't cause confusion so that incorrect assumptions aren't being made. What are your thoughts?
