TOPIC: AIDS as a Chronic Disease

AIDS stands for Acquired Immunodeficiency syndrome and is a disease that causes the body to become more vulnerable to opportunistic infections by attacking the immune system. It is a condition caused by the Human Immunodeficiency Virus. Its significance to the current generation.

AIDS is said to affect a more significant headcount for the youth as compared to other ages since they are more susceptible to conditions that expose them to infection such as unprotected sexual accounts or sharing contaminated piercing equipment, mostly in the case of intravenous injections for drug abusers. The youth form a higher percentage of most civilized societies and I, being part of this age group find it highly significant for me to address as a way of providing awareness for public outreach (Bello, 2016).
Its significance to the general population

AIDS can be viewed as a global epidemic since an approximation of about 77million people is living with the condition; the African continent being mostly affected (Kagaayi & Serwadda, 2016). From a study carried out in 2017, it was estimated that even though the rate of infection has reduced by 18% form an annual 2.2 million to 1.8 million, hence much still needs to be done to create awareness especially for teens and young adults. Since the disease is not contagious and can only be transmitted when the virus is introduced to the body system, it is therefore sure to say that infected people do not pose a threat to the health of others. Since 70% of people living with HIV/AIDS from the total of approximately 40 million infected people come from Africa, it is right to say that natives have most likely felt the burden that comes with the disease. Economies have been decimated since skilled labor is lost at the event of mortality and resources that could have otherwise been used in nation building are diverted to remedy the condition of ailing individuals. A sick nation has no workforce for transformation from a third world state with the effect that poverty looms over it. Reduced labor supply brings about reduced labor productivity, which is associated with long periods of illness hence a reduction in competitiveness and profits.

A remedy for HIV doesn't yet exist. However, medications are accessible to expand the lives of those with HIV and help stop transmission of the infection. A large number of the exceptionally effective antiretroviral treatments available today work adequately to moderate the agility of sickness brought about by HIV. In more advanced states, the cost of blend antiretroviral remedy stages from US$ 10 000 to US$ 15 000 for every patient for each 12 months as compared to low-pay nations where the value of antiretroviral therapy has drastically faded in latest years, to approximately US$ 350 for every patient-year. Be that as it may, this treatment stays costly contrasted with the per capita national wellbeing uses of those nations, (Yazdanpanah & Schwarzinger, 2016).

Studies demonstrate that an individual living with HIV has a near future to an HIV-pessimistic individual, giving they are analyzed in a great time, have excellent access to restorative consideration, and can cling to their HIV treatment. It is, however, realistic to state that specialists don't generally approach all the data that is important. For instance, they don't as a rule realize how physically dynamic individuals were, regardless of whether they smoked, or whether they utilized recreational medications. Even though these elements affect wellbeing, the information isn't accessible to deliver exact future appraisals as indicated by everyone. Along these lines, there are gauges as indicated by individuals' age at HIV determination. However, we don't have measures that consider way of life and social factors also. Remember that figures for the future are midpoints. The unique blend of conditions in every individual's life (including wellbeing, way of life, and social conditions) will impact the actual number of years an individual lives.
Search terms used

Finally, there is AIDS as a global epidemic and its relation to the cost of antiretroviral medication with its effect on life expectancy for why it is significant to the general population.
