There has been an agreement by orthopedic surgeons in each hospital in the system that the same implant will be used for all knees surgeries done by the orthopedic surgeons. However, the implant that has been chosen is different from hospital to hospital. By ordering a single implant from one manufacturer, the system could save considerable costs since all of the devices perform approximately the same clinically. The surgeons are private practitioners and could threaten to move their affiliation to a number of other, non-system hospitals if they think the system is treating them unfairly or interfering with their right to practice autonomously. How would you address this situation.
