He tended to take things literally; had problems expressing or describing emotions; and required much prompting in undertaking routine tasks such as washing and brushing his teeth. The tribunal held that B’s impairment adversely affected his memory and ability to concentrate, learn or understand - in particular, his ability to understand normal social interaction - and the effect was more than minor or trivial. Nevertheless, it is not a foregone conclusion that an autistic claimant will be found to have a disability.
