Population: Individuals with ALS, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord.

Students will need to identify and explain the role a social worker may perform when working with an service user who:
Is at risk for the chronic or terminal healthcare condition. For example, what interventions can be implemented to help mitigate the risk.
Has received a diagnosis of the selected chronic or terminal healthcare condition. For example, can symptomatic exacerbation be avoided? Is there an opportunity for the service user to have relief of the symptoms associated with the chronic or terminal healthcare condition?
Students will need to identify how the support system for a service user with the identified chronic or terminal healthcare condition can be utilized to help the service user.
What settings is a social worker likely to work with a service user in, who is at risk, or who has received a diagnosis of the selected chronic or terminal healthcare condition?
