William Bridges tells us that," First there is an ending, then a beginning and an important empty or fallow time in between." Some people try to change this order in an effort avoid memories that may have been unsettling or unpleasant thus resulting in a stagnation of sorts. In-depth analysis of past change events can shed light on one's present day state. Bridges asks you to, "...poke around the situation as you might explore an old house you once lived in".
PART 1:
A. Describe a past situation when an "ending" did not provide a fresh starting point for you.
What were the unfinished transitions associated with your situation?
Is it possible to still complete them?
Why did you not complete the transition(s)?
How has the past situation affected/effected your personal progression?
B. Think about an individual (friend, teammate, colleague etc.) that experienced a similar past situation; but had a successful ending that resulted in a completed transition to a new beginning.
How did they successfully make the transition?
What did you learn from them?
What did they do differently?
How could you have applied that knowledge to your situation?
How will you apply it to future situations?
PART 2
What are the events that have brought change into your life in the past year (excluding COVID)?
What are the areas of your life in which the changes are evident? ( e.g. Loss of relationships, Change in home life, Personal changes, etc.)
