Case Study: Liz owns a house in the rural area. She owns the house but her husband, Jack lives with her. Liz has three neighbours and is having the following issues. The first is a pig farm and every night, the smell from the pig farm makes it almost unbearable to be outside of her house. Although Liz has spoken to the owners of pig farm, there is little they are willing to take action.
The second neighbour is Superfields Tree Farm, which grows softwood trees for the paper industry. It has been in business for nearly 30 years. Liz has recently found that the trees from Superfields has been over growing and hanging into her garden. Liz asked Superfields to 'take care' of the over handing tree branches, but Superfields did not perform anything about it. As a matter of fact, due to the extremely warm spring, the trees have overgrown into Liz's property so much that it was block sunlight. As such, Liz cut the overhanging tree branches off.
Superfields was not happy about it and demand that Liz pay damages for the trees. The third is Westing Agricultural Products, another farm. It is currently in the process of building a new cattle farming centre, in order to meet the requirements of a new contract it has signed with the businesses it supplies. They need to begin production within the next two months to meet their quota, and so have employed builders to work throughout the night for 24 hours a day and for two weeks. They are scheduled to complete the project just in time. The building works taking place on Westing Agricultural Products' property is keeping Jack awake all night. Liz is unaffected, since she takes a sleeping pill each night anyway.
The last was about Mr. and Mrs. Smith who brings their dogs and three young children for a hike every Sunday near Liz's property. On Liz's garden stands a few unique figurines and every Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. Smith would bring their dogs and three children on a hike near Liz's Garden, but the children and the dogs would always be attracted by the figurines and would play and touches the figurines that was on Liz's garden.
