Background:

This assignment is designed to allow you to explore the global information security domain with respect to enterprise security with a focus on the management of information privacy in cross border business operations. It will also introduce you to the skills required to produce and present an academic paper appropriate to inform executive level enterprise personnel.

Scenario:
You have been engaged by Flinders University to advise on a proposal to open an international campus. You are to focus on the information security context for a given location and are required to compare the regulation, legislation, standards and other considerations that Flinders should be aware of when choosing the new location. You are required to understand the range of information systems that Flinders uses in its day to day operations and provide a risk assessment for 3 of them. You should then present a comparative analysis of the privacy laws, guidelines and standards applied in Australia and the target location and advise on the impact of the differences in terms of security and work required to comply. Finally you are asked to provide a set of recommendations for Flinders to consider.

Task:

Write a paper of no more than 7 pages. Select and research a range of information sources, and ensure you read widely about the issue of protecting information privacy in cross border enterprise operations. You should have at least 8 unique references to show that you have explored the literature. A paper that is just a list of unsubstantiated opinions will not be accepted - this is a critical analysis research and writing task.

The focus of the paper is the management of privacy of information in global enterprise operations. This will require you to research the regulation, legislation, standards and best practice guidelines for information in a focus location.

Remember that this is a paper about the application of security to ensuring information privacy in a specific location as compared to Australia, and not a paper on information security per se. Whilst information security concepts may be discussed, it is not the focus.
