When our society offers a new tool or a new way of communication, it seems that we all cannot wait to buy it. (Myself included.) As a result we are so busy using the new tools that we do not always see them for what they are: tools. We buy the newest cell phone that is loaded with the latest technology, and then the new tool becomes a part of who we are and it takes over the way that we communicate. Sometimes, I think that the technology is then controlling us.

There are many advantages and disadvantages of using different types of media (oral, written, visual, and electronic).
