1. According to the APA manual (for those interested, see under the chapter on Displaying Results), the purpose of a figure is to enhance the understanding of the text (rather than duplicate it–see Tip 2); thus, you should refer to each figure in the text and describe the important information (i.e., take-home message) that the reader should take from the figure. Figures should not contain distracting detail, be easy to read, and be self-explanatory. Figure legends should also be understandable on their own.
2. In describing the figure in the text, if you report a statistic in the figure, you should generally not re- present that number in the text. For example, if you report the actual p-values in the figure, you should also state in the text whether that result is significant or not but not repeat the p-value itself.

5. The assignment should be written throughout in a clear writing style with correct grammar and spelling. Overall, the assignment should be neatly presented (e.g., using easily readable font and spacing). Marks will be deducted for not following the structure outlined above, or for going beyond this structure. For example, it is not expected that the assignment be written up as a full laboratory report but rather as an abridged report using the headings and subheadings detailed above. APA- style should be adhered to throughout.

c. A correctly labelled and formatted APA-style figure summarising the mediation analyses. In the figure, you need to present both the coefficient and significance for the total effect, direct effect, indirect effect and the two components of the indirect effect (i.e., paths a and b). You can draw this figure using the drawing tool in Word, PowerPoint, or similar programs. Please report the beta values with three decimal places. See in the ‘APA Stuff’ section of the Unit Guide for more information on APA rules in relation to decimal fractions.
d. A properly labelled APA-style figure illustrating the relative effect sizes of the direct and indirect paths. HINT: you can make this using the stacked column chart style in Excel or a similar program (please Google this if you are not familiar with Excel). As in point 5 above, please use three decimal places for beta values.

The results should have a logical structure that explains the relevant results as follows:
a. A description of each finding including the significance (see Tip 2 below) and direction of each association.
b. The bootstrapping result (Note: there will be no p-value here, you will instead interpret the CIs at .01 or .05). That is, you must determine, based on the information presented in your lecture and tutorial, which is the most appropriate to report.

3. In general, the Results section (under a Level 1 heading) should include (a) a clear description of the statistical results in relation to each finding and (b) references to the figures so that the figures complement the written description (see Tip 1 below).

2. A Method section under a Level 1 APA heading titled Method (Note: this will not be a full Method section), which should provide enough details about the materials and analyses to make the results understandable and allow other researchers to replicate the research. This section should include the following information under the appropriate sections:
a. Under a Level 2 heading, titled Materials, include:
i. A short description of each measure and what it is measuring. For this assignment, it is not required that you include a description of psychometrics (e.g., validity/reliability).
ii. The response format of each measure.
iii. How each measure is interpreted.
b. Under a Level 2 heading, titled Analyses, please:
i. Provide details on the method of analysis and software used.
ii. Clearly identify the independent variable, the dependent variable, and the mediator.
iii. Provide two or three sentences (only) that summarise the overall results of the assumption testing and notes all assumptions tested. You should not report any statistics here, but, in instances where the assumptions were not met, you must provide the cut-off used, and the remedy and consequence.

1. A Level 2 APA heading titled Aims and Hypotheses. This section will include a paragraph with a statement of the purpose of the analysis, to introduce the issue or problem, including:
a. The aim of the research including a detailed and concise description of the mediation (i.e., the total and indirect paths).
b. The single alternative hypothesis and the single null hypothesis that will be used to test the study aims.

You do not need to include any power calculations or any rules of thumb relating to sample size.
You do not need to include a reference list, but you should still mention the author of works in your Method. For example, if talking about the PROCESS model, state it was by Hayes (2018).
You should use two-tailed tests and a critical alpha level of .05 for the primary analyses and .001 for the assumption testing.
Marks will be awarded for including, or deducted for omitting/getting incorrect, detail on the following criteria. To score high marks you would need to include the following sections and details therein:
