Advanced Electronics Assignment -
Aims: To gain experience in advanced electronic circuit design and CAD tools for advanced electronics.
Learning Outcomes: Students should be able to:
- Design basic circuit of BJT or CMOS technologies.
- Analyse the electronic circuits of current sources.
- Evaluate the performance and the characteristics of electronic circuits.
- Use SPICE to analyse and verify analogue circuits.
Part 1 -
1. Use PSpice to produce the I-V characteristic curves for NPN, PNP, NMOS, DNMOS and PMOS transistors.
2. Analyse the curves and comment on them.
3. Use the following models to simulate the above transistor:
PNP is = 1.4E-15 bf = 100 rb = 30 vaf = 50
NPN is = 1.5E-14 bf = 200 rb = 75 vaf = 100
NMOS level=1 vto = 1 lambda = 0.02
DNMOS level=1 vto = -1 lambda = 0.02
PMOS level=1 vto = -0.7 lambda = 0.02
Part 2 -
Task 1 - 1. Use PSpice to simulate current mirror circuits with the following different types of transistors (NPN, PNP, NMOS, and PMOS).
PNP is = 0.65e-15 bf = 225 rb = 10 vaf = 115
NPN is = 1e-14 bf = 200 rb = 75 vaf = 100
NMOS level=1 w = 6u I = 6u vto = 0.7 lambda = 0.02 kp = 250u
PMOS level=1 w = 6u I = 6u vto = -0.7 lambda = 0.02 kp = 100u
2. Discuss their advantages and disadvantages.
3. Suggest different solutions to eliminate some of their disadvantages.
4. Simulate one of these solutions and show its advantages over the current mirrors.
Task 2 - Design a Widler circuit which produces a current of 5pA, where
1. The power supply is 5V
2. The reference current is 5mA
3. The VBE(on) is 0.7V
4. The thermal voltage is 26mV
