A theory that can be used to describe the psychosocial changes that individuals in late adulthood experience is the social construction theory. The social construction theory works toward understanding and explaining the influence of social interactions, social structures, and social definitions on individuals in late adulthood (Hutchison, 2019). The theory explains that individuals can be understood by the economic, political, social, historical, and cultural conditions, along with their values (Hutchison, 2019). Individuals in late adulthood tend to examine their lives the time they have left, and seek to find their identity and place (Hutchison, 2019). I would utilize this theory because it has a positive view of aging and allows elderly adults to accept themselves as they are (Hutchison, 2019).
