The nurse is caring for Mary Jenkins, a 38-year-old female admitted for radiation after a left radical mastectomy. The client experienced significant postoperative anemia and has developed left arm lymphedema, so inpatient radiation has been started so the client can be monitored. The nurse has performed a physical assessment and notes moderate edema in the left arm. The client states, "My arm feels so heavy, and it is hard to lift up." The nurse also notes red, dry areas on the mastectomy surgical site. The client states, "This area is very sore and itches."
