Read the Chapter 8 case study about admission criteria for medical and surgical admissions

Review the Admission Criteria Table (table 8.3) and the patient's History & Physical (figure 8.10). Determine whether this patient meets the criteria for admission to the hospital. The instructions state the patient must meet at least one criterion in severity of illness (SOI) and one criterion in intensity of service (IOS) to qualify for hospital admission. You must list one criterion for each, severity of illness and intensity of service. Be sure to review the entire History & Physical so that you can get a clear picture of the patient's clinical condition on admission.

Severity of Illness (SOI): refers to how sick the patient is, or what level of care the patient requires, such as intensive care or general medical care.
