Revisit the two essential psychomotor skills that you selected for your discussion posting during week 6. What are two strategies you might use to assess the student's learning outcomes and improve learning?

To be a good nurse educator, one of the significant tasks in front of you is to design learning environments suitable for various learning styles and abilities. This is very important to provide a good education for all students. In class settings, I will endeavor to use several teaching procedures, including lectures, discussions, case studies, and multimedia presentations, to interest students with different learning habits (Darling-Hammond et al., 2020). Furthermore, I would encourage collaborative learning through group hands-on activities and peer teaching, which create a deeper understanding and are friendly to various learning styles. Besides the traditional learning environment, I would prefer the practical experience, i.e., hands-on experience, simulations, and practical demonstrations, because the course topic is instead a technical and concrete type of expertise. Furthermore, I promote reflective journaling or debriefing sessions that would serve two purposes: reiteration of theoretical concepts and addressing the needs of reflective learners. Moreover, I would offer written instructions, handouts, and visual aids to help support visual learners.

Even though there is a need to provide for and accommodate students' learning styles, I also believe that educators must not only urge the students but also let them exceed the boundaries of their comfort zones and discover other ways of learning. Overdependence on only one type of learning style may result in reduced flexibility, and the students may not be able to deal with different learning conditions they may encounter in real life during their professional journey. As a nurse educator, I would encourage the students to do the opposite of dogmatic, welcoming different learning types, which would induce flexibility and adaptability. In accomplishing this, I will be involved in various multifaceted tasks that will facilitate students to interact actively with different learning styles (Kaarlela et al., 2021). For instance, I could give them tasks to be carried out in groups that require various skills, such as research, writing, and oral presentation. I hope this will make the students share the burden and learn from each other. Developing a learning atmosphere that respects differences and encourages tolerance assists students in acquiring the knowledge of how to learn effectively in different circumstances, including the gradual development of the lifelong skills that workplace healthcare demands of them.
