Question: The response of Aboriginal people to the Multiculturalism Act has been mixed. Some Aboriginal people have appreciated the Act's recognition of cultural diversity and its efforts to combat racism. However, others have criticized the Act for failing to adequately address the unique rights and status of Aboriginal peoples. They argue that the Act tends to lump Aboriginal cultures in with other ethnic minorities, rather than recognizing their distinct status as the original inhabitants of the land.
